Heise launches heise Security in Great Britain
heise Security UK: Security news in English

Hanover, July 06, 2006 - Security portal heise Security (www.heisec.de) is expanding its coverage to the British market. This week, heise Security UK went live at www.heise-security.co.uk.

Exactly three years after heise Security Deutschland was launched, Heise has started its UK site with news and background information related to security. The staff in Great Britain will be covering security issues related specifically to Great Britain. Heise UK will be translating and localising reports and articles from heise Security Deutschland as well as providing new content for both the UK and German web sites. In addition to news and articles, heise Security offers unique services, such as the Browsercheck and Emailcheck. These explain and demonstrate the security dangers involved in using the internet. Users can even have harmless demo viruses sent to them in order to test out and optimize their configuration.

Jörg Mühle, advertising director of heise online, will also be handling advertising for the British web sites on behalf of Heise Zeitschriften Verlag. Oliver, Smith & Partners (www.osp-uk.com) will be marketing the web site in Great Britain as it has been doing since 2000 for Heise's magazines c't, iX and Technology Review as well as for the web site heise online.

Steven P. Steinkraus, Managing Director of Heise Zeitschriften Verlag, commented that "We are pleased to be working with such an experienced team in England that will be ensuring the quality people have come to expect from us. And we are pleased to have realised one of the many goals we have to expand the Heise Zeitschriften Verlag brand."

As Jürgen Schmidt, editor-in-chief at heise Security and department head of security-related issues at the computer magazine c't, explained, "We now will be offering security news to English readers based on the successful model of heise Security in Germany. After all, security risks in IT do not stop at national borders."

heise Security, the security portal of heise online, had 6,989,504 page impressions in May of 2006. heise online is a web site for computer and Internet issues from Heise Zeitschriften Verlag of Hanover, Germany. Since its launch in the spring of 1994, www.heise.de has been one of the most frequented special interest web sites in Germany and is number 1 when it comes to IT news. In May of 2006, heise online tallied 21.5 million visits and 133.4 million page impressions according to IVW.
